Massage Therapy and Energy work helps with holiday stress

November 24, 2015 By admin Leave a Comment

We all feel the effects of the holiday season.  In the positive, it is a joyous time to spend with family and friends, sharing food and stories with each other and just having good old quality time with our loved ones.  But in the negative, it can cause stress and anxiety with all the prep work that is involved to celebrate the holidays as well as over taxing our systems with lots of go, go, go.

One great way to combat these negative effects is to nurture yourself with a therapeutic massage or a cranio sacral or reiki session.  Massage has been proven to lower our stress and anxiety levels, increase our circulation and give us an overall reconnection with our body, mind and spirit.  Massage gives us that brief time to only focus on ourself, relieve physical discomforts, and check out of our hectic lives, even if it is only for a hour, your body will thank you!  Massage also gives us awareness of body, let’s us see where we are carrying physical stress and pain and lets us address it before it’s too late and can become more of a chronic issue.  Massage can also release toxins that get stuck in the body due to muscle tightness.  The tightness shuts off the area from receiving our beneficial cellular respiration, which cleanses the cells of toxins.  When an area is extremely tight the cells can not get properly cleaned.  There are many health benefits associated with massage and I will be discussing them in future blogs.

Cranio sacral therapy helps the body by bringing one out of the sympathetic nervous system and returning us to the parasympathetic nervous system.  This brings about a calming effect to the body and relieves us from that go, go, go energy.  It also rebalances the cerebrospinal fluid freeing up any restrictions that exist withing our fluid filled bodies.  It gives the client an overall deep relaxing and settled feeling within oneself.  People tend to feel more in their bodies and a lot calmer and serene.

Reiki or other forms of energy work also bring about a peaceful, relaxed state to the body, mind and spirit.  It rebalances all of our bodies and can also relieve physical pain and discomforts in the body.  It definitely calms the spirit from all of the busy hub bub of the holiday season.  So be kind to yourself and allow yourself to take a pause from the hecticness of life and heal yourself with a body treatment that will bring you back to serenity and peace!

This is one of my go-to sites for information on many areas of massage!

Erik Dalton, Ph.D. earned his philosophy and clinical psychology degrees from the University of Oklahoma. An inspirational seminar conducted by Dr. Ida Rolf launched a zealous mind-body adventure that led Dalton through a series of learning institutions including the Menninger Foundation, Mueller College of Holistic Studies, Michigan State Osteopathic College, and the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration.™

As a Certified Rolfer® in the early 80s, Erik saw a need for a more integrative pain management method. Post-graduate workshops with the legendary Philip Greenman at MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine sparked a passion to wed deep tissue, joint mobilization, and the work of Vladimir Janda. The hands-on success with his chronic pain clients persuaded Dalton share his findings with the broader bodywork community.
